Pee Dee town donates historic building to community health organization

SOCIETY HILL, SC (WMBF) – CareSouth Carolina will open a new facility in the Darlington County town of Society Hill.

According to a press release, town leaders entered into an agreement with CareSouth that allows the health organization to move into the vacant St. David’s Academy building.

The history of St. David’s stretches back to 1777, when it was the first public academy in the area. The building CareSouth will inhabit was built in 1957. It will be used for administrative offices and will free up space in other locations to provide a “more efficient patient experience,” the release stated.

Thursday’s announcement comes on the heels of CareSouth’s mortgage burning, celebrating the final payment of the mortgage for the Rosa Lee Gerald Center in Society Hill.

CareSouth Carolina is a private, non-profit community health center delivering patient-centered health and life services in the Pee Dee region, according to the release. The organization operates centers in Bennettsville, Bishopville, Cheraw, Chesterfield, Dillon, Hartsville, Lake View, Latta, McColl and Society Hill.
