Mercy Community Healthcare recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Mercy Children’s Clinic with a reception held outside of the main health center in Williamson Square in Franklin.

Members of the board, advisory board, staff, alumni boards and other community partners gathered to begin the year-long celebration.

Mercy Children’s Clinic was incorporated in April of 1999.

“It’s incredible to step back and realize how far God has led the ministry of Mercy,” CEO Cindy Siler said in a news release. “In 1999, a group of local pastors and business leaders founded Mercy Children’s Clinic because they recognized a serious need to create a resource for children in Williamson County who did not have insurance.

“Twenty years later, we’ve grown to serve over 10,000 patients per year. We now offer a healthcare home for the entire family, which includes primary care, mental and behavioral health services, and care coordination.”

Other events are planned throughout the year, including the annual Labor Day Franklin Classic run in downtown Franklin and a 20th anniversary celebration dinner Nov. 8.

History of the clinic

Mercy Community Healthcare was founded as Mercy Children’s Clinic and added mental health and social services to its integrated care program in 2006. In 2009, the nonprofit expanded to a new facility in Franklin.

Mercy was awarded a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services designating it as a Federally Qualified Health Center in June 2012. It then began seeing adult patients, and Mercy Children’s Clinic transitioned to Mercy Community Healthcare, according the release.

Last August, Mercy Community Healthcare announced it would, for the first time, expand its services outside of Williamson County to Marshall County. In 2017, the faith-based clinic in Franklin saw 9,000 patients from 23 different counties.
