Menendez, Booker unveil $6M to support community health center in Trenton

U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, both Democrats, announced Wednesday the awarding of $6,247,618 in federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services to support essential health services provided at Henry J. Austin Health Centerr in Trenton.

“This federal funding will ensure the Henry J. Austin Health Center can continue their work in providing high-quality, affordable and community-based primary and preventative care to the underserved communities in the area,” said Menendezsenior member of the Senate Finance Committee.

“From gynecological services and pediatric care to mental health and behavioral services, HJAHC provides a wide array of health care needs to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As I’ve done throughout my time in Congress, I’ll continue fighting to protect and expand funding for community health centers in New Jersey and across the country because the work they do is imperative.”

Last month Menendez joined colleagues in introducing legislation to bolster community health centers and expand access to vital health care services ifor hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans.

Menendez supported an amendment included in the Affordable Care Act’s final passage that requires private insurance plans on the exchange to fully reimburse Federally Qualified Health Centers at no less than the same rate as Medicaid in order to ensure the economic vitality of community health centers and properly recognize them for the valuable role they play in the American health care system.
