West Louisville Clinic to reopen as FHC on Nov. 6
OUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2017) – The Westside Medical Center Primary Care clinic, which closed Aug. 31 for repairs and renovations, will reopen Nov. 6 as a new Family Health Centers location.
When KentuckyOne Health announced the sale of a number of Louisville physician offices and the closing of the Westside clinic earlier this year, local community leaders became interested in the West Louisville clinic. Following a collaboration with patients, leaders and local partners, a “Letter of Intent” was presented to Family Health Centers to transfer ownership.
“We welcome the opportunity to grow our services in West Louisville, where there is a significant need for affordable, quality primary care services,” said Bill Wagner, CEO of Family Health Centers. “KentuckyOne Health’s generosity in transferring this facility to Family Health Centers made it possible for us to continue services at this location.”
“Working with a federally qualified health center like Family Health Centers, we have the opportunity to give the West Louisville community long term stability in its health care needs,” said Charles Powell, president of KentuckyOne Health Medical Group. “While it was a difficult decision to close this location, transferring this facility and its equipment to Family Health Centers will help meet the health care needs of the people in this area. We are confident that this new provider will continue the mission to deliver quality care, health education and wellness services to West Louisville for years to come.”
“I applaud KentuckyOne Health and Family Health Centers for ensuring that seniors and families in West Louisville, many who have limited transportation options, will continue to have access to healthcare options close to home,” said Darryl T. Owens, Kentucky State Representative.
For the past several years, the Westside Medical Center saw declining patient volumes as low as five patients a day and struggled to grow patient volume. In March 2017, KentuckyOne Health announced the office would close and later moved the closing to August 21.
Through the transition, patients continued to have access to providers and services at other locations in the downtown area such as Louisville Medical Associates at 201 Abraham Flexner Way and KentuckyOne Health Primary Care Associates at 1067 Dixie Highway, both with capacity to take on West Louisville patients who chose to continue their care with a KentuckyOne Health provider.
Family Health Centers has also been available for patient care at the 2215 Portland Avenue location.
Following the Westside Medical Center opening under the Family Health Centers’ name (Family Health Centers –West Market), patients will not need to request copies of their records from KentuckyOne Health. They are being made available to Family Health Centers. If patients do have questions, they can contact KentuckyOne Primary Care at 502.778.8400.
