Crusader Community Health is preparing to open its sixth location, a $6.3 million clinic with 24 exam rooms and space for expansion.
An open house for the 21,800-square-foot facility, 1215 N. Alpine Road, is set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The CARENOW clinic also has a patient education room, triage exam rooms, lab area, special walk-in clinics for children and adults and a community meeting room.
Gordon Eggers Jr., Crusader’s president and CEO, said the new clinic increases patient capacity and provides additional primary and preventive health services to underserved populations.
“It will enhance our efforts to provide optimal patient access and allow for future expansion based on the continued growing need for care,” he said in a statement.
Dr. Molly Zavala, whose specialty is family medicine, joined Crusader’s network in August. She’s been seeing about 15 patients, young and old, each day at the new clinic.
“It’s starting to pick up,” Zavala said. “It’s similar to probably moving into a brand new house. It’s such a fun adventure to be in a new place and a new location. It’s a warm, welcoming environment. We’re here to care for our patients.”
The facility, designed by David Hagney of Hagney Architects Inc., has a 5,000-square-foot space for expansion.
Crusader financed construction with a competitive $3 million state grant and a federal $1 million grant. The Crusader Community Health Foundation Board also raised $2 million for the land purchase.
Its other locations are 1200 W. State St., 1100 Broadway and 1002 N. Pierpont Ave. in Rockford; 1050 Logan Ave. in Belvidere and 6115 N. Second St. in Loves Park.
In 2016, Crusader’s network served more than 50,000 patients.
