The Berks Community Health Center plans to acquire a West Reading pediatric practice, officials announced Wednesday.

All About Children Pediatric Partners in the 600 block of Walnut Street will become the health center’s fourth site in Berks County. The acquisition will be effective Jan. 1.The leaders from both organizations said the acquisition was a natural fit because they share a common goal to treat all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.

“This will allow All About Children Pediatric Partners to sustain its mission into the future, as I pursue a role that allows me to mentor and continue community outreach for the Health Center,” said Dr. C. Eve J. Kimball, who founded the pediatric practice 26 years ago.
The health center’s board of directors and the shareholders for All About Children both approved the deal.Health center CEO Mary Kargbo said the pediatric practice has a long track record providing health care to children. Last year, Kimball said about 80 percent of its patients are on medical assistance or are insured through the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
Kargbo said adding the pediatric firm will broaden the scope of services the health center can provide to families.
“They are deeply committed, as we are, to ensuring that every single patient receives the best possible care,” Kargbo said.
Added Kimball: “And, as a private practice, we have always worked with the financial needs of families so that every child can receive care, whether or not the family can pay immediately.”
Terms were not disclosed. The name of the new health center site is still to be determined, Kargbo said.
The federally qualified health center has increased its footprint in the Reading area since its founding in June 2012. The health center has also added more specialty care in dentistry, podiatry, prenatal care and behavioral health, among others.
In addition to the pediatric practice, the health center has locations in the 800 block of Penn Street, the 1000 block of Liggett Avenue and the 400 block of North Second Street.
Kargbo has said the expansion is part of the health center’s mission to provide care to areas of the community that need it.
