DPS opening school-based health center to help all of its students

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – There’s good news for Dayton Public Schools families: the district is opening its first school-based health center for all of its students.

DPS is partnering with Five Rivers Health Centers, which said the facility will feature medical exam rooms for dental, vision and behavioral health services.

Five Rivers Health Centers said all those services will be offered at Dayton Boys Preparatory Academy, where the district plans to open the health facility.

DPS said students will be eligible for health care services regardless of health insurance or ability to pay.

If your child doesn’t go to school at Dayton Boys Preparatory Academy or you don’t live close by, that shouldn’t stop families from accessing the health services.

Five Rivers Health Centers said the district plans to bus students from different schools to the facility on West Third Street.

While the school-based health center will focus on students, Five Rivers Health Centers said it will also serve people in the community.

The health center is part of the district’s strategic plan.
