WASHINGTON — Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a federal grant to the Rural Health Services Consortium, Inc.:
“One of my highest priorities in Congress is ensuring East Tennesseans have access to quality health care. As a physician, I am pleased to see such a strong investment of over $4.2 million being made to Rural Health Services Consortium, Inc. (RHSC). This vital funding will enable the organization to continue to provide health care services for the uninsured, low-income residents in underserved areas in the First District. Community health centers (CHC) fill a critical health care gap in our community, and nationally CHCs are estimated to save our health care system $24 billion per year.”
RHSC is a non-profit that operates community health centers that provides affordable, accessible patient focused primary health care to residents of Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington.
RHSC will be receiving a total of $4,253,285 from HHS.
Congressman Roe wrote a letter in support of RHSC’s application to HHS for federal funding on Sept. 11, 2018.
