CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced that Project H.O.P.E, a federally-qualified health center in Camden, will receive $1,870,606 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Center Program to improve access to overall care and strengthen addiction treatment options in.

“Everyone ought to have access to quality health care. It’s that simple, and community health centers play an important role in ensuring there’s access for all. Plus, centers like Project H.O.P.E. are helping the ever-increasing number of our neighbors struggling with the disease of addiction,” said Congressman Norcross, Vice Chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Opioid Epidemic. “Over 3,000 people died from overdoses in New Jersey in 2018 – and, sadly, that’s a new record. Investments like these allow our community partners to continue offering treatment options. We must keep working together to provide affordable, accessible health care for all and implement a variety of tactics to help those suffering from the disease of addiction.”

“This funding enables Project H.O.P.E. to continue providing comprehensive and integrated essential primary and behavioral health services in the Camden community with an emphasis on health promotion, improving care for those with chronic diseases and addressing the opioid epidemic through the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT),” said Patricia DeShields, CEO of Project H.O.P.E (Camden’s Healthcare for the Homeless).

HHS’ Health Center Program supports community-based and patient-directed nonprofit organizations that provide primary and preventive health care services to the nation’s underserved.
