Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the selection of Emelin Martinez, FNP-BC as the chief medical officer for Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc. (“Valley-Wide”).
Emelin Martinez has extensive experience with Valley-Wide and the San Luis Valley. In 1979, Emelin Martinez received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Colorado Health Science Center, Denver. She began working as a charge nurse at the Alamosa Community Hospital. She then went to work for the University of New Mexico as a gynecology-oncology nurse in Albuquerque. While in Albuquerque, Emelin Martinez attended the University of New Mexico and in 1991 attained a Master of Science in Nursing focusing on Primary Care and Community Health and received a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies with a concentration in Southwest Studies. She is certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
In 1993, Emelin Martinez joined Valley-Wide as a Primary Care Clinician and practiced in San Luis. She also served as a field coordinator for the University of Colorado San Luis Valley Health Studies. In 2003, Emelin went to work for the University of Colorado Department of Preventive Medicine as a project manager and led a team of research assistants in the development of a diabetes registry for children throughout the State of Colorado, the Navajo Nation, and the Hopi and Gila River Reservations.
In 2005, Emelin Martinez returned to Valley-Wide to practice as a Primary Care Clinician at the Sierra Blanca Medical Center. In 2015, she assumed the role of assistant chief medical officer. In this capacity, Emelin has co-chaired the Quality Improvement Committee as well as conducting peer review and annual evaluations in her supervisory capacity of nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
As a non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Valley-Wide provides premier primary and preventive medical and dental care at clinics located in the San Luis Valley, Lower Arkansas Valley and Cañon City. Clinics offer a full range of health care for all ages including diagnosing and treating illness, routine check-ups, vaccinations, screening tests and counseling to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
