CAMDEN, NJ — A Camden community health care center has been named a grant winner as a federally qualified health center (FQHC), allowing it to become fully funded moving forward.

The Osborn Family Health Center was one of 77 recipients of the 2019 New Access Point awards announced this month by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The award elevates the Haddon Avenue-based facility from FQHC “look-alike” status, a designation earned in 2017. Look-alikes operate and provide services to underserved areas consistent with FQHC program requirements, but do not receive the equivalent funding.

“Osborn administration and staff are delighted to achieve full FQHC designation,” Shawne Cuilla, executive director and CEO of Osborn Family Health Center, said in a statement. “Camden and the surrounding neighborhoods served deserve quality healthcare. We will continue to challenge ourselves with innovative health care models while working closely with our (New Jersey) Primary Care Association partners.”

The New Access Point funding provides operational support for new organizations to become HRSA Health Center Program grantees and for existing health centers to establish new sites. In total, health centers across 23 states, Puerto Rico, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands received more than $50 million in funding.
