The North Carolina Community Health Center Association on Friday, June 9 will recognize Phil Harewood of Lincoln Community Health Center as the 2017 recipient of its BCBS Robert J. Greczyn Jr. Community Health Leadership Award.
“Phil has been a consistent leader, facilitator, and collaborator in Durham. He’s had a steady hand both in guiding his health center and advising the association for years. I am personally honored to serve with him,” said Ben Money, President and CEO of NCCHCA.
Harewood has spent the last 24 years as a member of the senior leadership team at Lincoln Community Health Center where he served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer and is currently the Chief Executive Officer.
He has been an important partner in the health care safety net for Durham and has maintained a great relationship with the Durham Health Department and Duke Health for developing innovative programs to improve health access for people in Durham. This innovative partnership is often referred to across the state as a model of cooperation by health care providers focused on the health of their community.
“I cannot think of any important decision for NCCHCA where all of us didn’t wait to hear what Phil was going to do first before we took any vote or action. I personally rely on Phil to help me in any important decision” said board vice chair Brian Toomey.
Harewood has served on numerous boards including two terms as President of the North Carolina Community Health Center Association and several terms as the Chair of the National Association of Community Health Center’s Subcommittee on Health Center Financing
He is a Consulting Associate in the Division of Community Health of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.
